Attend: Bringing [Dis]Ability to the Bar – Applying for GDL Scholarships – 24 April

The aim of this event is to create a space where Inns of Court GDL & Bar Course Scholars will be able to share advice on the scholarship process. The event focuses on GDL Scholarships, however, members of the panel will also include Bar Course Scholars since we believe their tips and advice will be applicable to GDL Scholarshops too.

The panelists are: Rhys Brown (Inner Temple Scholar), Maria Munir (Gray’s Inn Scholar), Lucy Barnes (Middle Temple Scholar), Charles Brooks (Lincoln’s Inn Scholar) & Max Shock (Lincoln’s Inn Scholar)

Some of the topics that this panel event will address include:

  • Why did you choose X Inn?
  • What was the written application process and how did you prepare?
  • What are the key qualities of a good written application for your Inn in particular? (Looking at the scholarship criteria)
  • What types of experiences did you use in evidencing the criteria in your written application?
  • What happened after the written submission in terms of communication and sorting reasonable adjustments for the interview?
  • How did you approach the mitigating circumstances section/disclosing your disability?
  • How was the interview? What was the interview structure like?
  • Tips for the written application & interview
