Welcome to our dictionary (glossary) page. Here you will find definitions of a variety of terms related to disability, including definitions of different types of disabilities, disability-related laws and policies, and disability-related terms and concepts.

It’s important to remember that language is constantly evolving, and what may be considered acceptable language in one context may not be in another. There are many different approaches to terminology and there’s no conclusive definition for many phrases.

It is also important to recognise that different people may use language differently when discussing disability. This can be influenced by a variety of factors, including an individual’s personal experiences, cultural background, and the context in which they are speaking.

We hope that this resource will still be helpful in increasing your understanding of disability and the experiences of disabled people.
