Ahead of introduction of the SQE this Autumn, the Law Society LDD advised and inputted into the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s reasonable adjustments policy and associated documentation. They continue to advise on how the SQE can be most inclusive for disabled candidates. In particular, they have been discussing the use of assistive technologies for the examinations.
They understand that no assistive technologies will be available for candidates sitting the SQE1 exams, and instead an amanuensis will be offered. The SRA and Kaplan have told them that using an amanuensis has been the reasonable adjustment offered for those who have sat the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Scheme for ten years.
The SQE1 is going to be an online multiple choice test of 360 questions (two exams of 180 questions over two days, each split into two parts of 90 questions). Extra time may be granted.
To help with their discussions with the SRA the Law Society LDD is asking if you have any comments on the following:
- Feedback from anyone who has sat the QLTS and used a reader or amanuensis.
- Anyone who has used assistive technology for any examinations.
- How people would have felt if their assistive technology was not available.
Please do email them if you have any comment.
