End of the Month Round-up: February

Thoughts of the Month…

Following the announcement of the roadmap out of lockdown and back to normal, the discussion has inevitably returned to the return to the office and the new normal. As you will have seen from the legal press, MdR’s has announced unlimited remote and flexible working.

It will be interesting to see what firms decide to do with their working from home/flexible working policies – while a lot of people are looking forward to the return to the office for some social in-person interaction, they are also wanting to retain flexibility.

More flexibility is something that will be welcomed by all staff, including disabled staff members. However, firms should remember to either put a flexible/adaptable policy in place while they wait for people to settle into what will be their new routine in a post-covid world (i.e. they just wait and see what staff do and keep their options open) and/or ensure that when seeking feedback on any revised policy that they encourage views from a diverse selection of staff, including disabled lawyers.

If you are running a survey at the moment or in the next month or so – remember that your staff are answering any surveys from their current point of view – so be sure to revisit in 6/12 months time. Their sentiments will change over time.

What we have been doing this month…

February always seems to fly by with being a slightly shorter month.

We started the month with Time to Talk Day which has meant we have been thinking about general mental health more this month and we have made a commitment to including more content on mental health generally, and about support for people with long-term health and medical conditions. As this is a new project we welcome feedback on anything else you think we should be covering – just drop us a line.

As February was also LGBT+ History month we have also posted a lot of content on this topic over on EDI in Law.

ICYMI – Things to read/watch/listen:
