This week is deaf awareness week. One of the initiatives that we have seen shared this week is the Closed Captions for a Day Campaign by We Support Deaf Awareness.
As part of the campaign they are asking that on Thursday 5th May, organisations and their staff to put closed captions/subtitles on so that they can experience, in a small way, what it is like when attending virtual meetings, and having to rely on closed captions because of deafness.
This is about behaviour change, rather than simply awareness–if staff can experience what it is like to have to juggle listening as well as reading the words (which aren’t always perfect), it will give them a greater understanding of what their deaf colleagues may be feeling.
Find out more and download the pack campaign here (which includes more details on using closed captions/subtitles).
